The Scott Rigsby Foundation and Jackson Healthcare have teamed up for the second year to host the Alliance Ride, a 25 and 50-mile cycling event to raise funds for the Scott Rigsby Foundation and its effort to support our wounded soldiers as they rehabilitate from injuries received in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  All proceeds from the Alliance Ride will fund Wounded Warrior Family Retreats hosted by Camp Twin Lakes and the Roosevelt Rehabilitation Center in Warm Springs, Georgia.

Double- amputee Scott Rigsby set a world record as the first to finish the Hawaiian Ironman with prosthetics.  As if that wasn’t enough to inspire people around the world, Rigsby formed The Scott Rigsby Foundation to help the physically challenged “Do the Unthinkable” in their own lives.  This year’s event will feature the Epic Handcycle RoadRace, a 25 mile U.S. Handcycling Series race, sanctioned by the US Handcycle Federation (USHF).

Alliance Ride to Support Wounded Iraq and Afghanistan Soldiers

Alpharetta 25 mile/50 mile Cycling Event included as part of 2011 U.S. Handcycling Series

ATLANTA, March 6, 2011 — The Scott Rigsby Foundation and Jackson Healthcare have teamed up for the second year to host the Alliance Ride, a 25 and 50-mile cycling event to raise funds for the Scott Rigsby Foundation and its effort to support our wounded soldiers as they rehabilitate from injuries received in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

“ The Southeast continues to be a hotbed for handcycle racing,” said Ian Lawless, Executive Director of the USHF, “We are thrilled to be working with The Scott Rigsby Foundation on this terrific new event and we expect we'll see top notch racing this year and hopefully for many years to come.”

The number of soldiers returning from OIF/OEF with loss of limb or mobility has risen above 1,200, and those suffering from the long term effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic brain injury are on the rise.  For many, reintegration into an active and healthy lifestyle at home, and within the family unit, is a significant challenge.  The Alliance Ride is one of several fundraising activities that the partnership seeks to advocate together to support these returning heroes.

The Alpharetta cycling event will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 7:30am.  The cycling route begins at Jackson Healthcare’s corporate headquarters, 2655 Northwinds Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30009 and follows a police-managed course through Alpharetta.  Registration is $25-$40 and may be completed online at www.allianceride.com or at the event the day of the race.

The Scott Rigsby Foundation recruits and inspires people of all ages and fitness levels to raise funds for advancements in prosthetics technology and research, enable our injured soldiers, and provide resources for physically challenged individuals in need through its “Mind-Body-Life” programs .
