We are pleased to announce that handcycling will return to the Athens Twilight this year, after a 3-year absence!

The Twilight will take place on Saturday, April 26 and the handcycle race is at 6:30 p.m.

This is a tremendous opportunity to race in one of the premier cycling criteriums in the worlds, in front of 30,000 fans, under the lights! And...the answer to the popular question is: YES! The race is confirmed and is moving forward as planned....

THERE WILL BE NO DAY-OF REGISTRATION IN ATHENS
YOU MUST REGISTER BY APRIL 23rd to race in Athens.
Accommodations: Due to so many events happening in Athens, there are no rooms available in town. However, since most will be traveling back to the Atlanta area, or the ATL airport, we have identified the Gwinnett Mall area in Duluth, GA as a conenient alternative. It's about 1 hour drive from downtwon Athens, and about 45 minutes to the ATL airport. Here are two options for accommodations (both at the Gwinnett Mall, close to each other):

- Higher-end Option: Marriott Courtyard (~$129)

- Inexpensive Option: Extended Stay ($~69)

Race Details: Prize money for Athens will be combined with the three races in Rome, GA to make a 4-race Omnium. This is happening for two reasons:
1) To create a more exciting weekend of racing in Georgia and give athletes an opportunity to race four times in three days.
2) To encourage stronger participation in Athens so that the promoters and the Athens Chamber of Commerce will continue to include a handcycle division.

Specifics about the prize purse and Omnium scoring will be posted here soon!

Directions:

From Atlanta - 1.25 hours
Take I-85 North to 316 East. Stay on 316. It changes names to Epps Bridge Road and then merges into Broad Street.? Follow Broad Street to downtown.

From North (Greenville, SC - 1.5 hours)
Take I-85 South to the Commerce GA/441 Exit. Take 441 South directly to Athens.

Parking

There are several parking decks (watch those roof racks) the largest accessed by turning right on East Campus Road (second right past the UGA Arches) going east on Broad Street.
Pre-Race Meeting:
There will be a handcycle pre-race meeting at 5:45 p.m. The location is to-be-determined, so please check back for this. We are currently working on locating a pre-determined parking spot and meeting point for the handcycle group...we'll keep you posted!
