Albor and Updike represent USA well in 1st World Cup Event |
The Wild West Handcycling Tour of Australia was held March 15-20 and the event kicked off the 1st race of the newly formed WHF World Cup Series. The event attracted an elite field from countries throughout Europe and the USA. Alejandro Albor and Matt Updike represented the USA in this inaugral event.
Albor of Elk Grove, California dominated the field in the HCC division by beating his opposition by over 8 minutes overall after the 5 stage event. Hans Mayrhofer of Austria who has dominated the handcycling scene internationally for over 5 years was an astonishing 8th place. It seems that Albor has solidified hisself as a major contender for the World Cup and the upcoming American Handcycling Series here in the USA.
Updike of Golden, Colorado and Team Invacare represented the USA in the HCB division and finished 4th place just out of a podium finish. Updike was consistent throughout the week and solidified hisself as a challenger for the World Cup in his division and looks to continue his stronghold on the HCB division in the American Handcycling Series.
Congratulations to both Alejandro and Matt on a job well done down under!
