American Handcycle Series Expansion |
The USHF is expanding the AHS series to a tiered system of races in order to provide an opportunity for athletes to earn points towards a national ranking at local and regional events, in addition to national-level races.
The points system will include four types of races:
- National Events. Based on a system of a maximum 100 points for the winner, with descending points for each place.
- Regional Events. Based on a system of a maximum 50 points for the winner, with descending points for each place.
- Local Events. Based on a system of a maximum 25 points for the winner, with descending points for each place.
- National-level Time Trials. There will be a handful of events where athletes can earn points based on percentage in front or behind the per-kilometer standard [as set by U.S. Paralympics] for their classification. I.e. 94% of the per k time = 94 points. As an experiment, a separate ranking list - grouping all classifications together based on the per k percentage - will also be created from races in this category.
Points will be given for each individual race, regardless if they are part of multi-day events.
National Champions in each discipline (RR/TT/Criterium) will receive a 25 point bonus.
Each athlete will be ranked using their top 10 point totals.
Detailed points structure and a list of which events fall in to what category will be posted soon. Currently, the USHF is seeking cycling event promoters who wish to be included in the series. We are specifically looking for races on the west and east coasts, but will accept proposals from any promoter. For details and a document outlining guidelines for hosting an AHS event, please email:
