on 04-20-2006 16:29

The AHS season-opener kicked-off in Rome, GA April 19th, with some great handcycle racing despite rain delays. Local racer, Krige Schabort [via South Africa], won the race in a sprint to the line, just in front of John Scott Gilger of Ohio and Todd Richardson of Raleigh, NC.

“We had a very exciting race, and we were pleased that 9 handcyclists [16 were registered] decided to wait through the rain delays and compete…the race was thrilling despite the poor weather.” said handcycle race director, John Crowley. Rafael Ibarra of Georgia was 4th, and newcomer, Derek Little made a promising debut, riding in the front group for most of the race.
