Handcycling National Championships
Tour de Nez Handcycling Events
June 22nd-June 24th, 2006
The Tour de Nez is ramping up for an unprecedented series of handcycling events in 2006. The Verdi Time Trial, Truckee Criterium, and Reno Criterium are all sanctioned by the U.S. Handcycling Federation, and we expect to draw some of the top athletes in the country. In fact, the Handcycling National Criterium Championships will be held in downtown Reno on June 24th. Join us for these spectacular races!
Thursday June 22nd Verdi and Truckee
The Verdi Time Trial will be the first race for the handcyclists, Thursday morning at 9:00 in front of Verdi Elementary School. Athletes will compete individually in a timed race over two laps along the scenic roads of Verdi, for a total of 10.6 kilometers.
The Truckee Criterium will take place Thursday afternoon at 5:30 on the streets of downtown Truckee, California. Athletes will compete head-to-head for 30 minutes along the 1.0mile course. Big crowds are expected in Truckee, so get there early for the best spot.

Friday June 23rd Truckee and Tahoe City
Handcyclists are invited to participate in a recreational ride on Friday morning at 9:00. Meet at the pullout space just past mousehole, aka trainwreck tunnel. This is a fun/training ride that can be varied for the hard core workout fiends. This 15.5 mile ride starts in Truckee and rides out Highway 89 along the Truckee River towards spectacular Lake Tahoe, eventually looping around back to Truckee. Additions to the route can be made along the way to create climbs if desired. When you finish the ride, you’ll want to make a beeline for Tahoe City, where the Tour de Nez Celebration of Cycling continues all day long at Commons Beach.
Saturday June 24th Reno, Nevada
Join the athletes for a Meet and Greet from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the historic Lake Mansion on the corner of Court Street and Arlington Avenue. Talk to the pros about handcycling and try out one of their rigs. This event is sponsored by the USHF and VSA Arts of Nevada.
The Tour de Nez is extremely proud to host the U.S. Handcycling National Criterium Championships at 5:00 pm in downtown Reno. Huge crowds are anticipated during the finale of the handcycling series, and spectators should expect plenty of revelry.
